    Construction of the GTSI permanent campus began on October 30. The campus is located in Baishiling in Shenzhen's Nanshan District, nearby Changlingpi Station on Metro Line 5, with a total planned site area of 16.21 hectares (40 acres) and gross floor area of 190,415 square meters (2,049,610 sq. ft.).

    The Master of Industrial Design (MID) program was officially launched, aiming to attract and train creative and engineering talents, with the potential to contribute to the development of local industries and a sustainable metropolis.
  • January 2022
    After the introduction of four, full-time Master’s programs including Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Analytics (MSA), Computer Science (CS), Environmental Engineering (ENVE) from Atlanta to Shenzhen, the Master of Industrial Design (MID) program, rated among the top in the United States, was launched at GTSI and started recruiting students from worldwide.

    Over 150 students from various countries and regions arrived at GTSI for check-in and registration. This was the first batch of new students since the official establishment of GTSI, the 15th and newest higher education institution established in Shenzhen.
  • March 2020
    With strong support from the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Shenzhen Municipal Government, the Chinese Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Georgia Tech Shenzhen Institute, Tianjin University (GTSI), making it the 15th and newest higher education institution in Shenzhen.
  • December 2016
    The Shenzhen Municipal Government, Tianjin University and Georgia Tech signed an agreement to jointly establish the Georgia Tech Shenzhen Institute, Tianjin University (GTSI), with the goal of cultivating talents with a global vision, abilities to innovate, and strong practical skills. GTSI is committed to becoming a world-class academic institution and pioneering a successful model for Sino-foreign academic cooperation.
  • January 2016
    A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by then Mayor Xu Qin of Shenzhen, then President Li Jiajun of Tianjin University and then President Bud Peterson of Georgia Tech. The three parties agreed in principle to work towards establishing a cooperative education institution in Shenzhen.

    The ECE program welcomed its first Class of students from multiple countries and regions, including Mainland China and its Taiwan region, the United States, India, France, and South Africa.
  • August 2013
    China’s Ministry of Education approved the establishment of a joint Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MS ECE) program by Tianjin University and Georgia Tech in Shenzhen, marking the first Sino-foreign cooperative education program in the city.
